Personally I thought that the lead 'car' was rather obnoxious. In fact, for most of the movie I couldn't stand him. It was all about him, and nobody else could get through to him. The all-star vocal cast does an amazing job at bringing these characters to life. It's actually the only thing I've ever like Larry the Cable Guy in, possible because I couldn't see him. A lot of the characters' voices were recognizable though. Owen Wilson heads up the cast, who I never used to like (all the way back to his ARMAGEDDON days) but he's kind of growing on me. Then Paul Newman, who voices Doc Hudson, and Bonnie Hunt who gives voice to Sally the Porsche.
So at first I thought the plot was quite a bit like this old Michael J. Fox movie from the 90's (DOC HOLLYWOOD) but it quickly turns into something different. From the very beginning Lightning McQueen (Wilson) annoyed me. He was all about winning and getting there any way he can and not caring about anything or anyone else. The only character I disliked more than him was the beyond annoying and even more obnoxious Chick Hicks (Michael Keaton). The King (That's his name, not a nickname) tries to give him advice which he ignores and ends up in a lot of trouble on his way to the threeway tie breaker race in California. Desperate to be the first to Cali he forces his truck (Mack) to drive all through the night. Four completely retarded 'teenage' cars are rude to the truck and he falls asleep. The back door opens and Mcqueen rolls out into traffic. Sadly this little car doesn't have headlights, just stickers, so he gets lost in the dark. Trying to find his way to the interstate and off Route 66 he messes up a small town's road and is ordered into community service to fix it.
As with most movies the lead character's life is completely changed by this town and the cars that live there. There are absolutely no people anywhere in this movie, but they do have a couple cars that immulate the real people of today. They make a few comments about government and the oil companies, making cartoons a little more political. There's even an 'Governator', and several recognizable voices of today's entertainment news.
Of course in the end of the movie McQueen has had a complete personality makeover where he thinks about others and puts others feelings above his own. He moves to Radiator Springs because his new love (Sally the Porsche, the town lawyer) lives there. His move there boosts the old town's economy into what it used to be, putting it back on the map. I never thought I'd say this, but this cartoon got kind of politcal, whether it meant to be or not. Doesn't mean I didn't like it, and I agree with the approach. I do think that people should be made more aware of our dire political situation right now. It may be a little much bringing it to children and their source of entertainment, but educating children in fun way is a good idea. Which brings me back to another cartoon, Schoolhouse Rock. Maybe if children are made more politically aware we may not have another disaster like we have now. Of course this is just my opinion, but most of America agrees with me on this. Currently Bush's approval ratings are not only at an all time low for him, historically their lower than any other president on record. Bush Jr.'s end of term approval rating is already being predicted to be the lowest ever recorded, making him infamous in history. His father's end of term rating was the 5th lowest in history (56 The highest end of term approval rating belonged to Bill Clinton at 65ænbsp; Sorry, I got a little off track there. I'm going to sign off now before I rant even more about today's politics. So later!
